BJP Tamilnadu is looking to reform itself for the last 8 years ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi stormed to power in the Center. The party won one seat and polled 6% by contesting 7 parliamentary seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and has never been able to repeat such an impressive performance in the last 8 years.
While in the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls and 2019 Parliamentary polls the party drew blank in the state, it managed to win 4 seats in the 2021 Assembly Polls mainly because of an alliance with the then ruling party ADMK. In July last year then, Tamil Nadu Unit President Murugan was elevated as the Union Minister of State and young retired IPS Officer Annamalai was appointed the State Unit President. Ever since the party has revitalized its strategy to promote young Turks in the Unit who would get to actively ascend the party for the next 3 decades. On 6th May 2022 roughly after 10 months of having appointed as BJP Tamilnadu Unit President, Annamalai released his Team of Office Bearers for Tamil Nadu who would steer the Unit under his leadership for the next 3 years.
SG Suryah is one notable Youth Leader from the BJP fold in the state. He was previously State Vice President of the Youth Wing of the Party and also functions as the Spokesperson for the party frequenting in regional, national television debates fiercely defending the BJP and attacking the DMK. Suryah is a Swayamsevak since his childhood and is a Law graduate from ILS Law School Pune and is a professional practicing Company Secretary. While as a Law student he was part of Narendra Modi’s Digital Campaigns Team for the 2012 Gujarat Elections and the subsequent National Elections in 2014, he also handled Digital Campaigns and Strategy for Tamil Nadu Elections in 2016, 2019 and 2021. He boasts the rich experience of working in various assignments in different states for the BJP like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Pondicherry, Delhi etc.,
He was invited to Israel by Govt. of Israel in 2018 as one of the Emerging Young Political Leaders in India for a 10-day Youth Exchange Program. Subsequently, in 2019, he was part of the Govt. of India’s Youth Leaders Delegation to South Korea for 12 days. He’s an accomplished columnist and author with 7 books to his credit all published before he turned 30 years. His book Biography of internationally renowned Social Worker Palam Kalyanasundaram and book on BJP’s North East capture explaining its strategy and hard work in the Tamil language are bestsellers. His translation work of Veer Savarkar’s Mazi Janmathep and Yogi Adityanath’s Biography to Tamil are critically acclaimed and bestsellers too.
As a student leader, he contested School Pupil Leader elections and College Department Chairman elections and won handsomely. He has organised large student rallies and various programs on social causes partnering with various organisations in Coimbatore. He founded an NGO Sixth Sense Foundation at the age of 18 along with his school friends that areengaged in welfare activities for underprivileged children and people throughout Tamil Nadu.
As a BJP activist, he is known for his debating and elocution skills and is the strongest critic of DMK and its Dravidian ideology. At 31 years, he is the Youngest ever State Secretary to be appointed in the history of the BJP. The fact that he is 2 years younger than the new Tamil Nadu Youth Wing President and is already a part of the all-important Core Parent Body of the party tells tales about his clout in the National BJP leadership. His college professor Swarana Latha says she had expected such an elevation for Suryah much earlier but is now happy with the increased responsibility and adds he will lead to bringing a positive change in Tamil Nadu. Suryah’s School teachers voice a similar opinion that their students will make them proud. Suryah’s childhood friend and school senior Pradeep Gunasekaran opines that Suryah is a born Leader and recalls that he served as a Class Monitor for 8 straight consecutive years which has never happened in their school history. Suryah is also credited with organising grand events and strengthening various student bodies during his School Captainship and College Chairmanship.
